39. Mega Man X (SNES)

How many various incarnations of Mega Man have there been? How many sequels? It’s probably like asking how many licks it takes to get to the center of a tootsie pop... the world may never know. In Mega Man X, it’s been many years since the original Mega Man, and machines called Mavericks have run amuck, so it’s X’s job to stop them. Mega Man X, like the best Super Nintendo games, is a simple game in concept but flawless in execution. Your goal is to defeat the robot master in each stage, then gain his power and eventually fight the head Maverick, Sigma. Yes, it's familiar territory, but this Blue Bomber can slide off walls and fight a badass bird named Storm Eagle. Also, Zero is way more "90's extreme" than Proto Man.
